Once Lord vighneswara was competing with his brother Kumara Swami for the supremacy of the deity.
Kumaraswamy then rode on a peacock vehicle to travel around 14 worlds and to bath in the rivers of fouteen worlds as
per the competition rules.But Ganesha could not go like his brother because of the shape he had. He sat in agony.Then Narada comes and tells Ganesha to go around his parents for three times.Ganesha did the same.Then a miracle appeared to Kumaraswamy.When he went to bathe in any  river of the 14 worlds, he saw Ganesha was coming back after taking his bath in that Thirtha.When Kumaraswamy came to Kailasa, he asked Ganesha his doubts. Then Ganesha tells of the glory of Lord Shiva and Devi Parvathi.


Kumaraswamy and other deities accept the supremacy of Vigneshwara.Then Vigneshwar was given Maha ganadhipatyam .

In puanas Lord Krishna also worshipped Lord vVighneswara when he went to in search. of Samanthakamani.
Lord Ganesha is the head of vighnas.He removes all the vighnas in our lives  when we worship him.He is
the head of knowledge.
